Sunshine Breaks Guinness World Record
with TJX Canada Associates
Creating the Largest Human Image of a Sun Communicates Possibility
We are so proud to announce The Sunshine Foundation of Canada and national dream partner TJX Canada are “Officially Amazing”, according to the world’s authority on record breaking.
It was a sea of yellow and orange t-shirts as 769 TJX Canada Associates poured into the parking lot of the TJX home office building in Mississauga, Ontario accepting Sunshine’s record attempt challenge. Joined by Sunshine Alum and staff members, the crowd formed the “Largest Human Image of a Sun”. The day was June 21, 2017 – the longest day of “sunshine” of the year – and a celebration of the Canadian division’s long-time support of Sunshine. The effort to break the Guinness World Record is symbolic of our mission to help children living with severe physical disabilities break through barriers, dream big, and believe in a brighter future.
The 90-minute event culminated with Sunshine alumnus Nathan and his mother Lynn being the last two to take their positions within one of the sun’s rays. Everyone held their position for the five minutes required by Guinness World Records, then celebrated by throwing their hats into the air. Sunshine and TJX Canada were officially recognized as Guinness World Record holders late in 2017.
“Sunshine Day was a truly collaborative event that fully embodied the enthusiastic spirit of everything we do together,” says Nancy Sutherland, Sunshine CEO. “Sunshine’s logo as a symbol of hope, optimism, and a brighter future for Sunshine children. Standing together with TJX Canada Associates in the shape of the sun image was an extraordinary experience.”
In the spirit of a true partnership, TJX Canada supports Sunshine in so many ways. The month long in-store Spread a Little Sunshine Campaign, the Central Region Swing Fore Dreams Golf Tournament, themed spirit days, volunteer involvement, corporate donations, and more. TJX Canada and thousands of Associates have positively impacted the lives of thousands of Sunshine children and their families. Their passion, commitment and enthusiasm continue to exceed our greatest hope, each and every year.
